Loveland Boy’s Bowling learned a lot this week as they suffered their first losses of the year, but still battled in their games. Both the Boy’s and girl’s basketball teams split their games while seeing some strong performances from their star players.
We saw the return of state champion Elizabeth Madison on the mats for Loveland wrestling and the swim and dive team had a great showing in the water once again. Check out this week’s rundown of all the best in Loveland sports from this past week.
Loveland Bowling
The Boy’s Bowling Team unfortunately saw their win streak come to an end this week against Carlisle. They fell 2642 to 2459 with senior Miles Ewald leading the way with a 405 series and the high game of the match with a 220.
The Girl’s Bowling Team also dropped their match against Carlisle 1638-1148. They are fighting hard each time out on the lanes still looking for their first win.
Later in the week, the Boys couldn’t get it done against Lebanon, coming up short 2982-2515. They are now 7-2 on the year and still set up well to do some damage down the road.
Loveland Basketball
The Loveland Girls started off the week with a solid win over Anderson by a score of 68-42. It was a real team effort with four Tigers in double figures on the night. Katy Wilber led the way with 16 followed closely with Bella Rogers with 15. Loveland also locked things down defensively, forcing 18 Anderson turnovers.
Their game on Thursday was a bit rougher as they faced West Clermont, one of the toughest teams in the ECC. Loveland fell 67-32, as the Wolves showed once again why they are the top scoring team in the conference at over 64 points per game. Rogers led the team with 8 points and pulled down 4 rebounds, while Ryann Unruh added 7 points along with 3 rebounds and 2 steals. Offensively, the Tigers had a rough night from the field as they shot just 28.2 % (11-of-39) and 42.9 % from the free-throw line.
On Tuesday, Loveland Boy’s Basketball claimed the victory against Turpin 63-53. Chase Marin continued his domination with 25 points and shot 10/21 from the field. He was also a perfect 5/5 from the charity stripe to go along with six rebounds. Blake Carrigan had a strong night as well with 15 points and Jackson Dillon chipped in 10 in the win. The Tigers also claimed the advantage on the boards as they out rebounded the Spartans 29-19.
It’s also worth taking a closer look into Martin and the dominant season he’s having. After the game against Turpin, Chase was tops in the entire conference in total points (271), field goals made (101), and free throws made (64). His average of 20.8 points per game is the second-highest in the ECC, trailing only Isaiah Mack-Russell of Winton Woods. And he’s putting up these numbers on an efficient 51% shooting mark from the field.
Martin had another strong showing on Friday night against the Anderson Raptors, but Loveland came up just short in a 73-71 overtime loss. He had a standout performance for Loveland, leading the team with 21 points on 8-of-17 shooting. Jason Bachmann (14 points), Jewel Vorbroker (11 points), and Blake Carrigan (10 points) all contributed as well.
The Tigers struggled defensively though. The Raptors put up a season-high 73 points in the game. They also wracked up 14 offensive rebounds which played a huge role in the game.
Loveland Swimming
Loveland Swim and Dive competed in the prestigious Southwest Classic Meet this weekend and we had some high class effort in the pool by our Tigers. As you can see from the below they had an amazing weekend and several swimmers and divers are primed to continue their great seasons:
Loveland Wrestling
On Wednesday night the Loveland Girl’s Wrestling Team hit the mats for the Anderson Scramble. They went 7-1 with all wins being by pin. We also saw the return of all-star Elizabeth Madison, who went 2-0 on the evening.
Then this weekend the girls were back at it for the Heart of Ohio Invite in Mechanicsburg, OH. Madison wasted no time taking the championship, while Torri Lewis secured fourth place and Kylah Buckner was sixth at the 115 lb class.
