Heat, Heartbreaks, and Highlights: Loveland Tigers Sports Tackle The End of August

Loveland’s fall sports teams faced heat, tight matches, and a demanding schedule this week, producing a split bag of results that still offered plenty of individual standouts. Girls volleyball kept rolling with two more wins, cross country packed the scoring five and earned multiple second-place team finishes, and soccer delivered a shutout plus penalty-kick goals even as both squads took some losses. Football remains a work in progress at 0-3 after dropping games to Lebanon and Kings, but the Tigers showed fight on the ground and on defense. Here’s how each team fared.

Boy’s Soccer

The Loveland Men’s Soccer Team fought the heat and Little Miami this week but came up short 4-2. The Tigers got PK goals from Drew Reis and Leo Collier but fell to 2-2-0. They will next face Summit Country Day on September 8.

Women’s Soccer

Our Loveland Women’s soccer team beat the brutal temperatures and toppled Little Miami 1-0 this week behind a goal from Charlotte Kady and a clean sheet from Madelyn Herbon. It was a sauna out there but our girls stayed cool and composed and got the win!

Their next game was a 2-1 defeat to a very good Harrison team. Caroline Kiefer had the lone goal for Loveland. They then journeyed north to take on Beavercreek and fell 1-0. They are now 2-3-1 and will face West Clermont on Tuesday.

Football

Loveland football fell to Lebanon in a 42-7 loss on August 28, 2026 in which the offense did not complete a pass and had only three attempts. The Tigers were outgained 481-153.

Sid Harbin had a solid game on the ground, carrying the ball 19 times for 111 yards (5.8 average) and breaking loose for a 36-yard long run, which setup his 21-yard touchdown run in the third quarter for Loveland’s lone score.

Defensively, the Tigers were kept busy on the field and registered 80 total tackles, led by Torsten Jodock had a game-high 19 stops (5 solo) and Andrew Duermit’s contributed 11 tackles. Loveland's defense managed four tackles for loss and forced two turnovers via interceptions from Jodock and Kyle Witt.  

The Tigers then fell to 0-3 this past Friday with a 41-14 defeat to Kings. The Knights move to 2-1 on the season. Loveland had a 14-13 halftime lead, but Kings rattled off 28 unanswered points to take the victory.

Quarterback Kellan Sprankles completed 7 of 10 passes for 67 yards and a 17-yard touchdown strike to Eli Pachmayer. Brady Cook also connected with Chase Dahlke for a 48-yard touchdown bomb.

On the ground, Sid Harbin had 126 rushing yards on 18 carries while Pachmayer added 43 yards on four carries.

The offense had some bright sports for sure but struggled with conversions, going just 1 of 7 on third-down opportunities and 0 for 4 on fourth-down attempts.

Defensively, the Tigers racked up 89 total tackles—headlined by Andrew Duermit's 16 stops and Kyle Witt's 10 tackles—and forced a turnover on Cook's interception. Kings was simply too strong gaining 446 total yards, including 296 on the ground.

At 0-3 it has been a work in progress for the Tiger’s offense, especially in the passing game. They rank last in both total yards per game (188) and pass yards per game (41) as they are trying to find the best fit and scheme to get their first win of the year.

Girls Volleyball

Loveland girl’s volleyball gutted out 3-1 victory against Little Miami on Tuesday, winning the first set 25-21 before dropping the second 15-25 and then closing out the match 25-18, 25-18. Kylie George led the Tigers with 13 kills and three blocks, while Karli Krohn added 12 kills on 29 attacks.  

Megan Scheib ran the offense with 31 assists, Ella George finished with 17 digs and four aces, and Gabbi Ciotti contributed four blocks as Loveland totaled 41 kills, 14 blocks, and 59 digs.

Two nights later the Tigers swept West Clermont 25-11, 25-23, 25-22. Kylie George again paced the attack with 10 kills and no errors on 19 swings. Gabbi Ciotti and Sam Murray each had seven kills, Megan Scheib distributed 31 assists with four kills and three aces of her own, and Karli Krohn added four kills and three aces.

These wins move the Tigers to 3-1 on the season.

Cross Country

The Loveland boys finished third as a team at the Buckeye Run Invite, led by Trombley in third overall. Wolfer and Slater both placed 13th.

The girls also placed second out of seven teams at the event. Anna Feeney got a huge win overall while Isabela Fronk finished 10th, Lilly Gutekunst 13th, Macy Weiland 14th, Abby Droessler 18th, and Maddie Tew 19th.

In the open races at Sunrise, the boys took third as a team. Finkler led in seventh, with Bailey 13th, Joyner 25th, Gatsos 30th, and Fletcher 36th.

The girls open team finished with a an amazing second place result with Saletta, Gutekunst, and Glasgow going 1-2-3, followed by Shiverski in 21st and Gard in 26th.

Next, the Tigers posted strong team results at their own Invite, with both varsity squads finishing second.

Boys varsity placed 2nd of 14. Senior Ian Trombley led the way in 3rd. Sophomore Quinn Mentzer (13th), sophomore Ben Slater (14th), and junior Keene Wolfer (15th) then packed tightly to keep the team score low. Freshman Trey Strole closed the scoring five in 25th.

Girls varsity also finished 2nd of 12. Senior Anna Feeney ran 4th. Senior Isabela Fronk (19th), sophomore Macy Weiland (22nd), sophomore Lillian Gutekunst (23rd), junior Abby Droessler (28th), and junior Emma Todd (29th) followed and gave the Tigers solid depth behind the leader.

In the girls open race (122 runners), freshman Olivia Capps placed 16th. Junior Kate Weigand (26th), senior Madison Gard (28th), junior Abigail Boyle (31st), and sophomore Paige Shiverski and freshman Madi Metz (tied 32nd) added more scoring presence across the field.

Boys open finished 4th of 13 teams. Lincoln Droessler led the Tigers with a 2nd-place individual run. Junior Caleb Simmons followed in 26th, junior Griffin Joyner in 31st, freshman Parker Bailey in 37th, and junior Dane Partusch in 48th.
