The Loveland Sports Weekly Roundup

It’s postseason time! Our Loveland Tigers competed in district and sectional competitions tournaments for basketball, swimming, wrestling and so much more. Our student athletes took the podium after their efforts in the pool and on the mats, and cut down the nets on the basketball court.

There were accolades all over the place this week, read all about it below!

Loveland Basketball

The Girls took on Ursuline in the first round of the OSHAA playoffs and toppled them 60-38. Bella Rodgers had a massive double double with 28 points and 16 boards, and went 10-11 at the free throw line as well. Katy Wilber was cracking from downtown as she hit four threes while Ryann Unruh had eight points along with three assists.

Then on Saturday they took it one step further, taking the District Championship for the first time in school history with a 45-38 win over Stebbins. The Tigers advance to play the winner of either Mount Notre Dame (23-0) or Kings (8-15) in a Division II regional semifinal March 3 at Princeton. The Division II regional final is scheduled for March 7 at Princeton.

This program has come an extremely long way since Coach John Unruh took the helm two years ago. At that time they did not even have a junior varsity program. And now they are district champions.

“I think it's a huge testament to our seniors that stayed positive through tough years and all our kids that continued to believe in themselves, buy into our culture and play relentless on both ends every possession," coach Unruh told WCPO 9 Sports in a text message.

The Boys will play their first tournament game against Edgewood on Monday at 7:30 Pam at Lakota West High School. The Cougars went 15-7 on the year and were 8-2 in the Southwestern Buckeye League.

Swim and Dive

The Schroeder sisters stormed the state dive meet this weekend and brought home some hardware. Isabelle was a powerhouse in the sprint events, claiming 6th place in both the 50 Freestyle and the 100 Freestyle. Not to be outdone, Hannah showcased impressive range and endurance; she earned a prestigious 4th place finish in the 200 Freestyle and rounded out her performance with a strong 14th place in the highly technical 100 Butterfly.

Loveland Wrestling

The boys finished strong this weekend with five placers at the Middletown Sectional. Will Hossenlopp and Eric Earl both finished in third place, qualifying them for the Districts next Friday and Saturday at Kettering. Additionally, Nizom Khujanizom, Jerome Davis, and Shane Murray all finished in fifth place and will serve as district alternates.

On the Girl’s side, Elizabeth Madison and Torri Lewis are sectional champions for the Loveland Tigers! Both went 4-0 this week and will advance on in the postseason.
