The Loveland Sports Weekly Roundup

In a sports week capped by a massive snowstorm, our Loveland sports teams remained hot, especially our Girls Basketball team picking up a great win on senior night. Chase Brown eclipsed a major milestone on the basketball court as well. The swim and dive teams were in competition at the ECC Meet and our wrestlers welcomed some of the best competition in the area for the Loveland Duals.

Loveland Basketball

Another epic performance by Chase Martin wasn’t enough to overcome the Wolves of West Clermont for the Boys on Tuesday. The Tigers fell 63-58 after leading by one at the half. Martin finished with a game-high 33 points, and was extremely efficient from the floor again, shooting 50% (9-of-18). Over his last nine games he’s averaging 24.2 points per game while shooting 49.3% from the field.

The rest of the Loveland squad did all they could but came up just short as they managed just 25 points on 7-of-24 (29.2%) shooting. Blake Carrigan and Clay Bebout had seven points each while Jewel Vorbroker, Jason Bachmann, and Jackson Dillon each had three points.

This was the second close game the Tigers dropped in a row. They fell to both Anderson and against the Wolves by a total of just seven combined points. And it wouldn’t get any easier later in the week.

The Tigers took on undefeated Winton Woods on Friday and just couldn’t get it done, going down by a score of 49-34. It was a landmark night for Chase Martin, however, who surpassed 1,000 career points for Loveland, joining an elite club.

On the Winton Woods side, Isaiah Mack-Russell continues to be a problem for Loveland just as he has been for the entire ECC. In the prior matchup in December he had 25 points on 11-of-17 (64.7%) shooting from the field. Last week he was 7-11 for 21 points in the win, adding eight rebounds as well.

But for Chase Martin it’s been quite the journey.

As a sophomore in the 2023-24 season in his first major action for Loveland he averaged 10.5 points and 4.1 rebounds per game while shooting 47.1% from the field. That only increased last year as he averaged 17 points a game while shooting at a 50% clip. We’ve already discussed the amazing season he’s had this year, but suffice it to say it doesn’t look like he’s anywhere near done performing this season.

Girl’s Basketball and the upperclassmen wowed on senior night on Thursday beating Lebanon 54-36 behind 10 makes from deep. Of the Tigers’ 19 total field goals, 10 were three-pointers. Ryann Unruh led the scoring effort with 13 points, including shooting a scorching 50% (4-of-8) from beyond the arc. Bella Rogers was a presence on the boards with a game-high 13 and also distributed 5 assists.

Loveland stifled Lebanon from three, holding them to just 2/17 (11.8%). The girls also moved the ball extremely well, recording 16 assists on 19 made baskets.

Loveland Bowling

The Boys toppled Lakota West on Senior Night by a score of 2693 - 2425. Connor Burns posted a high series of 444, and had a beautiful 253 second game. Tyler Schwinn also had a series of 416 close behind Burns in the win to take the team to 9-2 overall

The Girls dropped their Senior Night matchup to Lakota West unfortunately, 2357-1511. Maria Yeager Had the high game for the Tigers with a 246.

Loveland Swim and Dive

It was a big week for our Tigers in the pool as they competed in the ECC Championships. Freshman Dylan Gannaway took second in the One Meter Dive. Lydia Feldman was seventh and Kate Fahey finished ninth in the dive for the girls.

For the swimmers Hannah Schroeder took second in the 200 IM, fourth in the 100 yard butterfly. Isabelle Schroeder won the 50 freestyle, took third in the 100 yard backstroke, and along with her teammate Chloe Albers won second in the 200 freestyle relay. Luca Miramonti was eighth in the 200 freestyle. The Girls team took home sixth overall.

The boys finished eighth in the ECC after a sixth place finish for Caleb Simmons and Kellen Cain in the 200 yard freestyle relay. Cain was also eighth in the 200 yard freestyle. Eli Stagg was tenth in the 100 yard butterfly.
