It was a rollercoaster week for Loveland athletics. Chase Martin and Elizabeth Madison had some amazing individual accomplishments on the court and mats. We are coming to the stretch run for our winter sports and the postseason will be here before you can blink. These next weeks will be pivotal for our Tigers!
Loveland Basketball
The Boy’s Basketball team is going through a bit of a rough patch. They’ve dropped five straight and are now 9-9 on the year. They’ve been outscored by just 34 points in those losses so most have been extremely close. But in their last two games the offense has really struggled, scoring just 43 and 37 points. These are their lowest outputs since putting up just 34 in a loss to Winton Woods on January 23.
With just four games left in the regular season rhe Boys will look to get right against Kings next week. They will as always look to their best players to finish the year strong, including Blake Carrigan (13th in ECC in scoring, 11.2 points per game, shooting 37.0% from three) and Chase Martin (3rd in the conference, 20.3 points per game, 49.5% field goal percentage, 4th in the EVC in rebounds, 6.9 per game).
The Girl’s team took down Lebanon 54-36 behind junior Ryann Unruh who led the Tigers with 13 points and 6 rebounds. Katy Wilber dropped 11 while Bella Rogers, cleaned the glass with a game-high 13 rebounds, also adding 7 points and 5 assists.
Rogers leads the conference with 10 boards per game and is fifth in scoring at 15.7 per game. At the same time Unruh has established herself as one of the best playmakers in the league, ranking 2nd in the ECC in assists with 3.3 per game.
Loveland Bowling
The Boys dropped an extremely close one to West Clermont by a final count of 3,057 to 2,945. Kian Bronner bowled a team-high 454 series with an average of 227.0. Senior Tyler Schwinn was close behind finishing with a 430 series (215.0 average). They are now 9-3 on the year and 5-2 in the ECC.
On the Girl’s side, it was another tough match. They came up short against the Wolves of West Clermont 2,269 to 1,130. Marisa Whalen had a team-high 223 series and a 111.5 average. Senior Jocelyn French also gave a strong showing with a 213 series and a high game of 107.
Loveland Wrestling
The Tigers traveled to Delaware, Ohio for the Rieman Invitational this past weekend where a host of wrestlers took the podium. Those include:
Reece Webster (106lbs) - 6th place
Will Hossenlopp (126lbs) - 4th place
Jake Thompson (138lbs) - 6th place
Eric Earl (165lbs) - 6th place
Randy Madison (215lbs) -4th place
As a team the Tigers took 11th overall at the meet.
The Girls Wrestling team finished 14th out 34 teams at their tournament this weekend. In a d to that great result Elizabeth Madison finished in 1st Place (5-0, 5 pins) and also took home the tournament's most outstanding wrestler. Lewis went 3-0, but unfortunately had to default to 4th place due to injury.
