A fundraising challenge at Loveland Early Childhood Center has turned into a rooftop sleepover for two familiar faces in the school community.

Principal Matt Patterson and School Resource Officer Jesse Moore will spend the night on the school’s roof Thursday, Oct. 22, after the community far exceeded its fundraising goal for the Loveland Elementary Parent-Teacher Association (LEPTA). The fall walk-a-thon fundraiser raised more than $80,000, including nearly $20,000 from the Loveland Early Childhood Center campus. That total represents 146% of LEPTA’s original $55,000 fundraising goal.

“We are blown away by the support of our parents and community members for our students!” Patterson said in a news release.

The fundraiser supports programs and activities that benefit students, including field trips and after-school enrichment opportunities.

Patterson said the overnight stay is a small way to recognize the PTA’s work and thank the community for its generosity.

“We are so thankful for the Loveland Elementary PTA and all they do for our students,” Patterson said. “Every dollar they raise from our community provides opportunities for our kids.”

Rooftop storytime planned for Thursday

Patterson and Moore, who also serves as the Loveland Police Department’s community relations officer, are scheduled to head to the roof at 6:30 p.m. Thursday. Families are invited to attend a send-off ceremony at Loveland Early Childhood Center before the pair settles in for the night. At 7:45 p.m., Patterson and Moore will read a bedtime story during a Facebook Live broadcast. The rooftop stay will continue into Friday morning, when the two plan to welcome students to school from the roof as part of the school’s pajama day.

The event offers a lighthearted way to celebrate the fundraising achievement while recognizing the parents, volunteers and community members who support Loveland students.

Loveland Early Childhood Center is located at 6740 Loveland-Miamiville Road in Loveland.

The community celebration begins Thursday, Oct. 22, with the send-off scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
