Ohio Primary Election Day Is Here: What Loveland Voters Need to Know Before Polls Close Tonight

It’s Primary Election Day across Ohio, and voters in Loveland and surrounding communities still have time to cast their ballots.

Polls are open today until 7:30 p.m. If you are in line by 7:30 p.m., you are still legally allowed to vote — even if the line extends past closing time. Ohio polling locations opened at 6:30 a.m. this morning.

This year’s primary election will help decide which candidates advance to the November general election ballot for several major races, including Ohio governor, U.S. Senate, statewide offices, congressional seats, and local issues depending on where you live.

One thing many Ohio voters may not realize: when you vote in a primary, you are asked which party ballot you want to use.

If you request a Republican ballot, you can only vote in Republican primary races. If you request a Democratic ballot, you can only vote in Democratic primary races. In some areas, voters may also have the option of requesting an issues-only ballot if there are local issues on the ballot but they do not want to participate in a party primary.

Your ballot choice is considered public voting history and can be used to determine your party affiliation in Ohio. That does not permanently lock you into a political party. You can choose a different party ballot — or no party ballot — in future primary elections.

Ohio’s 2026 General Election is scheduled for Tuesday, November 3, 2026. That election will decide who ultimately wins many of the races being narrowed down today.

Voters should also remember to bring a valid photo ID to their polling place.

To find your polling location or review your ballot, visit the Ohio Secretary of State website.

For voters who haven’t made it to the polls yet: the clock is ticking. Polls close at 7:30 p.m. tonight.
