Loveland, Ohio — Patriotism filled the air Tuesday evening as a crowd gathered at CVG Airport to welcome home a group of American veterans returning from an Honor Flight—among them Loveland native and Vietnam veteran Terry Stouder.
Friends, family members, and supporters lined the terminal, waving flags and applauding as the veterans made their way through the airport. The atmosphere was electric, a powerful reminder of the gratitude many feel for those who have served.
Stouder, a longtime member of the Loveland community and husband of LaDonna Stouder, was one of the honorees on the flight. The Honor Flight program provides veterans—particularly those who served in World War II, Korea, and Vietnam—the opportunity to visit memorials in Washington, D.C. dedicated to their service and sacrifice.
The Honor Flight Network was founded in 2005 with a simple but powerful mission: to transport America’s veterans to Washington, D.C. to visit the memorials built in their honor—free of charge. What began as a small initiative to serve World War II veterans has since grown into a nationwide effort, with regional hubs organizing trips for thousands of veterans each year. The experience is designed not only as a day of reflection, but as a long-overdue “thank you” to those who served, many of whom never received a proper welcome home.
While many in attendance may not have personally known every veteran returning on this particular flight, the sense of unity and appreciation was unmistakable. Strangers embraced, hands were shaken, and countless “thank you(s)” were exchanged.
Events like this serve as a reminder of the deep ties between small communities like Loveland and the broader story of American service. For Stouder and his fellow veterans, the evening was more than just a return home—it was a long-overdue recognition of their sacrifice.
As the crowd slowly dispersed, one sentiment lingered in the air: gratitude.
