Loveland, Ohio — The Loveland community is remembering the life and service of David Michael Bednar, a longtime public servant, business leader, and devoted family man who passed away on April 5, 2026, at the age of 78.
Bednar, a resident of Loveland, died peacefully on Easter Sunday following a long illness, surrounded by his family.
Born September 11, 1947, in Massillon, Ohio, Bednar was a graduate of Washington High School, where he played on the 1964 state championship football team. He later earned a degree in business administration from Ashland University and served in the United States Army before embarking on a successful career in retail and industrial sales.
In Loveland, Bednar became known for his deep commitment to public service. He served on Loveland City Council and held the role of vice mayor, helping guide the city through years of growth and change. He also contributed his time to the Loveland-Symmes Fire Department Board, further strengthening public safety efforts in the community.
Beyond his civic contributions, Bednar was a man of wide-ranging interests and strong personal connections. He was a 25-year member of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, where he remained active in the life of the congregation.
Family was central to Bednar’s life. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Donna, his daughters Kyle Bednar and Courtney Coffey, and his grandchildren, Macie and Grayson Coffey.
Friends and loved ones remember him as someone who found joy in both simple pleasures and meaningful pursuits. He spent years boating on Lake Cumberland and the Ohio River, building friendships along the way. In later years, he and his wife enjoyed winters in Florida. At home, he was often found in his workshop refinishing furniture or crafting live-edge tables, and he took pride in his cooking—especially his chili.
A visitation and memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 11 at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Loveland, with a luncheon to follow.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made in Bednar’s memory to the Melanoma Research Alliance.
For many in Loveland, David Bednar’s legacy will be defined not only by his years of public service, but by the relationships he built and the steady presence he maintained in the community he called home.
