Bridge Street Health is proud to recognize Men’s Health Month

In support of improving the health and well-being of men, we are offering free appointments for men during the month of June.

Only three out of five men get an annual physical. And, on average, men die six years earlier than women. Much of this gap is attributed to preventable or manageable diseases that go undetected. Even more striking, nearly 40% of men only seek medical care when they already believe they are seriously ill.

When asked why this is the case, Dr. Hendrixson shared, “Typically, men neglect their own health and ignore symptoms. They are busy supporting their family, traveling for work, and they don’t take time for themselves.” This is concerning because routine checkups are designed to catch high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and diabetes before they cause permanent damage.

At Bridge Street Health, our approach is a bit different from traditional primary care. We combine traditional primary care with evidence-based lifestyle and functional medicine to support prevention, wellness and whole-person health. We are on a mission to build a community of people living healthier and more vibrant lives.

“At Bridge Street Health, I get to be the physician I always wanted to be. My goal is to create an environment that is comfortable and not threatening or judgmental. I can take time with my patients and treat them as an individual, not a population. Treatment is personalized to them,” says Dr. Hendrixson.

Our approach at Bridge Street Health aligns with that of MensHealthMonth.org  which supports improving men’s health through a comprehensive approach that promotes preventive screenings, early intervention, mental and emotional well-being, and open health conversations. It also requires recognizing men not only as patients, but as caregivers, partners, fathers, mentors, and community leaders. “Supporting men’s health strengthens families and communities,” said Jennifer Thompson, VP at Men’s Health Network. “By recognizing care as a partnership, we can encourage earlier conversations, proactive health decisions, and better outcomes for everyone.”

“Men, you probably aren’t as healthy as you think you are,” challenges Dr. Hendrixson. “We have to think about longevity. What do you want to be doing ten or twenty years from now? Do you want to be a better golfer, more creative and efficient, have less aches and pains, or prevent disease? Whatever you are serious about, we will take a wholistic approach and create a customized treatment plan.”
