MIAMI TOWNSHIP, Ohio — Miami Township is introducing a new community event just in time for Mother’s Day weekend, combining fitness, shopping, and local small business support under one roof.
The township’s first-ever Mother’s Day: Sweat, Sip & Shop will take place Saturday, May 9, beginning at 8 a.m. at the Miami Township Civic Center, 6101 Meijer Drive. Township officials describe the event as a welcoming way for families and friends to celebrate the holiday while enjoying wellness classes, refreshments, and a marketplace featuring local vendors.
According to Cassidy Craig, Recreation Program Coordinator for Miami Township, the event was created as a fresh community offering during her first year with the township.
“I wanted to bring an event in my first year,” Craig said in an interview. Planning for the event began last fall, with outreach to local businesses and community partners starting in October.
Fitness Classes and Shopping
The morning will feature free, instructor-led classes in the Civic Center’s Mulberry Room, including:
Tai Chi
Yoga
Buddy Bootcamp
Classes are open to the public, with registration available online through the township website. Organizers said residents and non-residents are welcome to participate.
Upstairs, visitors can browse approximately 45 local vendors offering baked goods, handmade jewelry, crochet items, gifts, and other specialty products. Craig said many of the participants are home-based entrepreneurs who sell through Facebook, Etsy, or pop-up markets rather than storefront locations.
“This is a good way to give people a platform,” she said.
Drinks, Flowers, and Last-Minute Gifts
The event will also include complimentary mimosas provided through a chamber partnership, coffee vendors, smoothie bowls, a bouquet bar, and permanent jewelry.
Craig noted the event was intentionally scheduled the day before Mother’s Day to give shoppers a fun place to find gifts while supporting local businesses.
Building Community Through Events
Miami Township has continued expanding recreation programming through camps, wellness classes, youth activities, and seasonal events. Craig said the new event reflects the township’s goal of creating more experiences that bring residents together.
“We don’t have a lot of retail-style community events like this,” she said. “Even if it’s one table, it helps people get known.”
