Loveland’s (At Least) Two Moments on "The Simpsons"

For a city that proudly calls itself “The Sweetheart of Ohio,” Loveland has made its way into plenty of postcards, wedding stories, and regional headlines over the years. But what about pop culture’s most iconic animated universe? Has Loveland ever made it into The Simpsons?

It turns out the answer is: yes—and more than once.

A Quick Shoutout from Marge

In the 11th season finale episode “Behind the Laughter,” a parody of the VH1 series Behind the Music, the Simpson family is reimagined as a dysfunctional showbiz act. During one montage, Marge Simpson is shown performing a cover of I Shot the Sheriff. As the music wraps, she turns to the crowd and says:

“Thank you, Loveland!”

It’s a quick, throwaway line—easy to miss, but unmistakable.

A Deeper Cut: Mona Simpson’s Fake ID

Loveland makes another, even more specific appearance in the eighth episode of the seventh season titled “Mother Simpson.”

In that episode, Homer’s long-lost mother, Mona Simpson, is living under an assumed identity. At one point, her fake ID is shown on screen—and listed on it as her hometown:

Loveland, Ohio.

Unlike Marge’s concert shoutout, this reference is much more precise. It doesn’t just use the name “Loveland”—it explicitly points to Loveland, Ohio, making it one of the rare moments where the show directly names the city.

Is It a Coincidence?

Maybe. Maybe not.

The Simpsons writers are known for pulling from real places across the country, often choosing names that feel authentic or quietly humorous. Loveland, with its instantly recognizable and charming name, fits that mold perfectly.

Whether it was chosen at random or because someone in the writers’ room had a connection to southwest Ohio, the result is the same: Loveland ends up woven—however briefly—into the fabric of Springfield.

A Rare Honor

Despite the show’s decades-long run and hundreds of episodes, these two moments are the only widely documented references to Loveland in The Simpsons.

That makes them small but notable pieces of pop culture trivia—especially for a city our size.

Claiming the Cameo

So should Loveland, Ohio claim its place in Simpsons history?

Absolutely.

Between Marge thanking a concert crowd in Loveland and Mona Simpson quietly listing it as her hometown, the city has earned at least a couple of subtle nods from one of television’s most influential shows.

Not bad for a town of our size.

Did We Miss One?

Of course, with over 700 episodes and counting, there’s always the chance another Loveland reference is hiding somewhere in Springfield.

If you’ve spotted one, let us know.

Until then, we’ll take it:

In the words of Marge Simpson, Thank you Loveland.
